How to save your language class whiteboard as a PDF
How to keep everything written on the whiteboard during an online language class as a PDF or images, without screenshots, ready for your student to study.
The class is over and the whiteboard is full: conjugations, new vocabulary, the sentence your student got wrong three times, a quick sketch to explain a preposition. Now you want to save the class whiteboard as a PDF and send it to your student.
This is where a lot gets lost. The whiteboard disappears when the call ends, the screenshot comes out cropped, and the student gets a file nobody can really read.
Why it is so hard to keep the online class whiteboard
In an in-person class, the student copied the board into a notebook. Online, expectations changed: students want to receive the material ready and organized, so they can review it when they have time.
The problem is that most digital whiteboards were designed for meetings, not classes. The content stays stuck in a temporary session, in your account, or behind a link that expires.
Without a simple way to export the whiteboard, you end up choosing between spending ten minutes after class putting a file together or sending nothing. With a busy schedule, the second option almost always wins.
And the student feels it. They remember learning something, but not exactly what, and the next class starts by repeating what was already covered.
How most teachers save the whiteboard today
When the class runs on Google Meet or Zoom with a whiteboard open in another tab, the most common paths are:
- Screenshots. Fast, but they cut off whatever was outside the visible area and become heavy images that are unreadable on a phone.
- Exporting manually from Jamboard, Miro or Excalidraw. It works, but you have to remember to export before closing, and every tool has a different path.
- Copying the content into a Google Doc. You rewrite what you already wrote. Double the work.
- Sending a photo of the board on WhatsApp. The file gets lost in the chat and the student never finds it again.
All of these share the same flaw: they depend on you remembering and having time. And they all leave the material scattered across different places, far from the rest of the class.
What a good way to save the whiteboard needs
If you think about the ideal way to export a language class whiteboard, the list is short:
- No manual step at the end of class. The whiteboard should be kept automatically, without you having to export it before hanging up.
- A format the student can open anywhere. PDF solves it: it opens on a phone or computer, and it can be printed.
- One page per slide. If you used several boards during class, each one becomes a page, in the right order.
- An image option. Sometimes you just want an image of one specific slide to reuse in other material.
- Students can download it themselves. Without depending on you to send the file.
- Together with the rest of the class. The whiteboard makes more sense next to the transcription and corrections, not in a loose folder.
That last point makes the biggest difference. A PDF of the whiteboard alone helps. The whiteboard next to everything that was said in class helps much more.
How Noladi solves it
In Noladi, the collaborative whiteboard is part of the live classroom and is recorded in the lesson review. After the class, you and your student see the version history of the whiteboard and download the content as a PDF, with one page per slide, or as slides in PNG images inside a ZIP file.
No manual export, no screenshots. The student opens the lesson review in their own area, with your brand, and finds the whiteboard alongside the transcription, the AI correction suggestions and the new words from that class. If they want the file, they download it themselves.
